Help for 'character building'

CHARACTER BUILDING

Sindome characters have stats and skills like many other roleplaying games, and these attributes work together to allow characters to perform many actions or fulfill many roles in the game. Player characters will earn Unassigned Experience (UE) automatically during their normal play, that they can then spend ('@assign ue') on any of the stats or skills in the game, in order to develop their character in the way they want to.

Where Sindome differs from other games with similar looking systems, is that characters develop much more gradually and over a longer period of time, continuing to grow and having opportunities to develop over many years. A single stat raise in one game could be a major decision that effects the design of a character, whereas in Sindome a player will make hundreds or even thousands of these raises.

Also unlike other games, much of how a player learns about the skills and stats in Sindome is done through the in-game world, seeking out mentors to learn how to improve in the ways they want to, learning how skills and skill mechanics work, how to develop their stats to suit their goals. In general the answer to how 'how do I be good at X' is answered by asking that question in-character and finding someone (player OR NPC) who knows!

However all characters will make use of ALL of their primary stats (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Agility, Intelligence, Charisma, Luck) though every day gameplay and roleplaying, and characters will often have a variety of skills appropriate to their goals and interests, though they may have certain ones they specialize in (or even penalties in others, appropriate to their character: See 'help advantages').

Though it can be very helpful to get additional in-character guidance on HOW to achieve the character goals you are interested in, or for pursuing the activities you want to do as a character in Sindome, it is normal for new players to be uncertain about how to develop their characters at first and feel unsure about what to pursue or invest in, however there are many many resources and ready player characters willing to help.

In situations where a player feels like they spent UE incorrectly (whether through typo or other reason) they may choose to forget skills up to 30 points of investment (not UE - see: help forget), and older characters who meet certain requirements may be allowed to have a limited respec (see: help respec). Likewise players who feel like they've been given an inappropriate disadvantage that contradicts their character design may be allowed to mulligan once to pick new advantages (see: help advantages).
